The Annual Venerable Pierre Toussiant Awards Dinner is one of the major sources of support for the Pierre Toussaint Scholarship Program - for college student-leaders, from the Archdiocese of New York. The Dinner and the Pierre Toussaint Scholarship Fund (PTSF) also provides support for College Pierre Toussaint (CPT). A quality secondary school in Sassier, Haiti (in the Diocese of Jeremie).
During this special evening of fellowship, quality entertainment and fine dining, the Archdiocese of New York also honors outstanding individuals by presenting to them the Archdiocesan Pierre Toussaint Medallion. Since 1978, this award has been presented to distinguished persons for their positive leadership, extraordinary efforts in support of human life, human rights & social justice, spiritual values and quality education for all.
The Pierre Toussaint Scholarship Program (established in 1983) provides mentorship and support to college student-leaders of diverse cultural & ethnic backgrounds, who attend a myriad of colleges and universities around the country. These Pierre Toussaint Scholars come from over 25 different parishes in the Archdiocese of New York. (For the 2017-18 Academic Year, there will be 53 Scholars in the program - on both the undergraduate and graduate/professional school levels.)
Over the years, the Awards Dinner has provided support for College Pierre Toussaint(established in 2006), located in the small rural community of Sassier, in southwest Haiti. CPT began with 76 students and currently serves over 300 students, in grades 7-13..
